Mark Zwilsky, a son, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022, at the age of 64. After privately battling liver cancer, he died peacefully in his home in Leesburg, Va.

He was born July 3, 1958, to Klaus and Roberta (Bobbie) Zwilsky in Boston, Mass. Known as a troublemaker throughout his childhood in Montgomery County, Md., Zwilsky was proud that he was asked to leave Churchill High School prior to graduating. After earning his GED, Zwilsky went on to Greenville Technical Institute.

He married the love of his life, Mary Zwilsky, April 30, 1993. Mark was proud to watch his children, Eric Zwilsky, Sarah Zwilsky, and Jeremy Wong, excel in sports and later in business and parenthood. He loved spoiling his grandchildren—Max Zwilsky, Casen Zwilsky, Julia Wong, Quinn Zwilsky, Russell Wong, Alice Meador, and Charlotte Wong.

In 1996, he founded Potomac Metals Incorporated on a hope and a prayer, leasing a small warehouse with only two employees. During his 25 years of leadership, he expanded his company to nine locations and over 125 employees. Zwilsky believed in his dream and the employees who helped build Potomac Metals to become one of the largest metal recycling companies on the East Coast today.

He loved to spend his free time traveling in his RV. Zwilsky enjoyed his retirement by visiting National Parks, historical musical landmarks, and his favorite event—the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Zwilsky was a hero to many.

A true American dream success story, Zwilsky was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed. His legacy will live on forever in his children, grandchildren, and Potomac Metals.

In lieu of flowers, Mark’s family asks that you consider donating to Loudoun Hunger Relief. Information can be found on how to donate food or monetary donations here.

The funeral will be Friday, Dec. 23, 2023, with the service held at 12 p.m. ET at Temple Beth Ami, 14330 Travilah Rd, Rockville, MD 20850. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at 16225 Batchellors Forest Rd, Olney, MD 20832.
