Government funding expires Oct. 1, the start of the federal fiscal year. A shutdown will effectively begin at 12:01 a.m. if Congress is not able to pass a funding plan that the president signs into law. A shutdown would disrupt many services. Federal agencies would stop all actions deemed non-essential — some government entities being exempt and others severely curtailed.

It is impossible to predict how long a shutdown would last though many are bracing for a stoppage that could last weeks. With only a few days left before a federal government-wide shutdown, ISRI will host a conversation with leaders in Washington, D.C. with vast experience in these political and budgetary situations to provide insight into how we got here, what it means for the country, how and when it might end, and potential impacts on the industry.

During this discussion, our panel — which includes Richard Gold and Tom Davis, partners at Holland & Knight LLP— will explain the political dynamics, the budgetary and Constitutional processes, and the various interests that all will play roles in this looming fiscal fight.

This discussion, open only to ISRI members, will take place Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. ET.
