Future Industry Leaders Leave Their Mark on DC

Right before the 2023 Summer Meeting, 23 emerging recycled materials leaders attended the ISRI Industry Leadership Development Program at ISRI headquarters in Washington, D.C. The program is designed to provide new-to-the-industry professionals who show great leadership promise with guidance, insight, and skills needed to build an impactful career in the recycled materials industry.

“The industry knowledge I learned was phenomenal and greatly appreciated,” said attendee Brennan Brewster from Texas Metals & Recycling Co.

Some of the topics covered during the program included: Getting to the Heart of Brave Leadership and Courage Cultures, Q & A with Industry Leaders: Ideas, Impressions, and Perceptions, Toolbox to Buying and Selling Recyclable Materials, and Navigating Challenges in a Down Market.

“I was excited to grow my industry knowledge and meet like-minded individuals. The conference exceeded my expectations.” -Sarah Zwilsky from Potomac Metals.

But it wasn’t all just workshops. There were plenty of networking opportunities for attendees throughout the two-day program including a kickoff group social team building event. “It was exciting to meet other industry professionals, both those with lots of experience and those newer to the industry. I also enjoyed hearing candid information from seasoned industry and ISRI members about their businesses,” said Mike Gjelsten from AMP Robotics.

The program itself is a hit with attendees, with most participants feeling that they can apply what they learned to their current job and future career. “I thoroughly enjoyed meeting people that were in similar situations with my current career, and the ability to have mentors there with such experience was incredible. Not often do we get to have that one-on-one time where we can ask the questions that have been looming for some time,” said Sheena Parker from SA Recycling.
