ISRI2024 is hosting the Recycling Education & Research Foundation (RERF) annual Silent Auction. The proceeds from the event help the Foundation carry out its mission of funding projects that promote public awareness, education, research, and the advancement of the recycled materials industry.

Over the years, RERF’s Silent Auction has raised over $300,000 from donations such as recycled metal art, hotel packages, jewelry, sporting goods, and equipment and tools.

The fundraiser will be held in person at the ISRI Convention & Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, on April 15 – 18, 2024.

We sat down with RERF’s new chair, Christine Gneiding, trader at Intrametco, to find out what the process looks like this year and what enticing items will be up for grabs.

What are you most looking forward to at ISRI2024?

Seeing good friends and colleagues and meeting new ones. Taking in all that is an ISRI convention from the exhibit hall to the multitude of educational programming to the general sessions. I am especially excited to see Joel Denbo and Mel Wright accept their Lifetime Achievement Awards; these are truly two of the most deserving recipients who have transformed our industry.

What kinds of items can people look forward to?

There are so many items for a wide range of interests, everything from gift certificates for ISRI chapter events to upcycled artwork to cooking classes to a weekend Airbnb package in Scottsdale, Arizona.

There are also several big-ticket items this year. One is a “Premier Level” NASCAR experience – this is an ultimate package. The other is an upcycled bicycle made of recycled aluminum coffee pods, which I may have to bid on myself!

The array of items, especially the various chapter/region event packages, should make this year’s auction fun and exciting for attendees. This is a great way to have someone participate in a chapter event that they may not normally attend. It allows someone to expand their ISRI circle, which is always worthwhile. I’m excited about the future of RERF, the projects that are in the works, and how they will benefit our industry.

Where will it be held?

The 2024 auction items will be displayed at the entrance to the exhibit hall. The convention committee has helped make this year’s display very visible for all attendees.

What is the process?

Online bidding will begin Saturday evening, April 13. All bidding will be handled online through a mobile bidding app so you can use your mobile device or computer. You can browse items, place bids, even set a max bid through the end of the auction. The bidding site will launch soon.
