The need for global scrap specifications continues to increase, given rising quality concerns in response to market developments in China, the United States, and around the world. ISRI is working with stakeholders at home and overseas, in the public and private sectors, to facilitate trade in scrap commodities. As discussed at the Market Access Working Group meetings held in at the ISRI offices in January, ISRI staff will work with the Market Access Working Group and Specifications Working Group to develop a project management plan for overseeing the revision of the ISRI Specifications. The plan will incorporate a timeline for accomplishing each stage of the revisions process which may include: reformatting the current Specs document; harmonizing terminology; adding pictures; undertaking a technical rewrite; inviting international recycling associations to collaborate; and briefing foreign governments.
