October 6-12 is Fire Prevention Week, a week focused on providing public education in an effort to drastically decrease casualties caused by fires. Listed below are some fire prevention resources for recyclers.
ISRI’s Fire Task Force is developing a guidance document on fire management. It is generic and meant to provide support to all members in developing and/or improving their site specific fire management plans.
The document includes fire prevention, incipient firefighting, and crisis management, and addresses both OSHA requirements and NFPA recommendations. Major contributors came from ex-firefighting professionals with a combined fire experience of nearly 100 years. Plan completion is expected by year end.
OSHA also has some excellent fire prevention plan resources available. The fire prevention plan should be integrated with the overall facility Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
