Scrap Recyclers Visit Capitol Hill

In January, several dozen ISRI members visited with their elected lawmakers on Capitol Hill to discuss impacts on them created by the comprehensive tax reforms enacted at the end of 2017.

Also discussed was the industry’s priority issues, including transportation problems throughout the nation, the major trade issues especially the Chinese import restrictions for paper and plastics, and the ramifications of treating scrap commodities as solid waste.

  • The fly-in provided the industry with an opportunity to highlight the scrap recycling industry’s economic and environmental achievements
  • ISRI members had breakfast on Capitol Hill where presentations concerning national issues  were made  by Representatives Lou Barletta (R-PA) and John Shimkus (R-IL)

…Both Congressmen also fielded questions from the audience on a variety of topics
