Starting more than 80 years ago, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) developed Safety Standards for cranes, derricks, hoists, and other lifting equipment. The ASME B30 Standard Committee was responsible for this work and it received general approval from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as each specific volume was created and updated for various types of equipment.
The entire group of B30 Standards contain provisions which apply to construction, installation, operation, inspection, testing, maintenance and use of lifting and material handling equipment.
It was recognized in 1998 that there was no appropriate safety standard for a new class of Hydraulically Powered Scrap and Material Handlers. A new subcommittee was formed to develop a safety standard appropriate for this class of equipment.
The Volume B30.25, was first published in 1999 and has had new content published in 2003, 2007, 2013, and 2018.
The B30.25 Sub Committee is made up of a strong group of volunteers from OEM manufacturers, trade associations, users, and safety professionals who meet regularly to discuss and update this volume.
