Dec 17, 2019, 14:14 PM by Paper Beat
On October 16, 2019, ISRI’s Paper Division met in Portland, Oregon and unanimously approved a motion to amend Grade No. 52 to include both “liquid or dry” containers. The specification currently reads as follows:

“(52) Aseptic Packaging and Gable-Top Cartons

Consists of liquid packaging board containers including empty, used, polyethylene (PE)-coated, printed one-side aseptic and gable-top cartons containing no less than 70% bleached chemical fiber and may contain up to 6% aluminum foil and 24% PE film.

Prohibitive Materials may not exceed 2%

Outthrows plus prohibitives may not exceed 5%”

ISRI’s Board of Directors will consider the proposed amendment at its next Board of Directors meeting to be held from February 18-21, 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee. At that time, the Board may choose to adopt, amend, or reject the recommendation of the Division or table the proposal pending further review. More information about the rules governing the procedures from the addition, amendment, or withdrawal of ISRI’s scrap specifications can be found in the Scrap Specifications Circular. To submit comments, recommendations, or questions please contact ISRI Chief Economist and Director of Commodities Joe Pickard. Pending approval, there will be an open comment period for 30 days following the vote by the Board.
