Outside of the industry, it’s often overlooked that the domestic paper-making infrastructure was robust and meeting the demand for low-priced, high quality products. U.S. forestry is one of the most sustainable programs in the world and that also allows domestic paper producers to provide high quality feedstock for paper production in other parts of the world. Now that a significant portion of this supply is remaining within U.S. borders, it’s important to recognize the new capacity coming online to re-infuse some life into the paper industry. This map from Resource Recycling is an excellent start to find these new and upcoming outlets for our material. The Northeast Recycling Council (NERC) recently published an updated report with a more comprehensive list of recycled paper capacity increases.
