ISRI Applauds Lieutenant Governors Association for its Support of National Recycling Strategy

Mar 25, 2021, 17:25 PM by Rachel Bookman

(Washington, DC) – The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), the Voice of the Recycling Industry™, commends the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) for adopting a resolution today at its annual meeting, Supporting America Recycles Day and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Recycling Strategy.

“This is a significant acknowledgement by lieutenant governors and the elected officials first in line of succession to governors in the 50 states and five U.S. territories celebrating, along with ISRI, the essential role of recycling.” Robin Wiener, president of ISRI. “ISRI looks forward to continuing to collaborate with NLGA members around the nation on promoting solutions that can further increase recycling in communities across the country so that all can profit from the environmental, economic, and social benefits of recycling.”

Sponsored by South Carolina Lt. Governor Pamela Evette and Guam Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio, the resolution highlights efforts of the U.S. EPA to improve recycling throughout the country, noting that the first America Recycles Day (ARD) Summit in 2018 has led to a draft National Recycling Strategy that identifies objectives and actions needed to create a stronger and more resilient municipal recycling system.

“Whereas, participating in ARD and actively supporting its mission is one of the ways the American people can help raise awareness about the need to reduce waste by reusing, recycling, and buying recycled products since a successful recycling system is a critical component in reducing the environmental impacts of materials across their lifecycle,” according to the NLGA resolution.

NLGA recognizes the draft National Recycling Strategy as “building upon the collaborative efforts by stakeholders from across the recycling system” and identifies ISRI as among the stakeholders providing U.S. EPA with the “preliminary input in the development of the National Recycling Strategy.”

Joining as cosponsors of the resolution are Hawaii Lt. Governor Josh Green and Alaska Lt. Governor Kevin Meyer.

America Recycles Day is an annual event that takes place every November 15, designed to help raise the profile of recycling and promote the many positive attributes of the industry.
