Larry Kripke, founder of long-time ReMA member company Kripke Enterprise, Inc., passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 13. A cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Kripke passed on after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

“His remarkable kindness, unwavering values, and generous spirit have left an indelible mark on his family, our community, the workplace, and the wider industry,” said a company notice from Kripke Enterprises.

Kripke’s journey in the recycled metal business began in the mid-1960s at Sherwin Metals, working alongside his father, Sherwin, and brothers, Harley and Bobby. After graduating from the University of Michigan Business School in1965, he returned to Toledo, Ohio to contribute to the family business. His leadership and innovative vision led to the merger of Sherwin Metals with Tuschman Steel in 1976, forming Kripke-Tuschman Industries, where he spearheaded all non-ferrous operations.

His career saw further growth and achievement when Kripke-Tuschman merged with Omni Source Corporation in 1983, where Kripke eventually led the Ohio non-ferrous trading group. Over the years, he expertly managed a secondary smelter, a copper granulating line, a hedging operation, and numerous aluminum and copper operations. In 1993, Kripke embarked on a new venture, founding Kripke Enterprises, Inc., through which his legacy of innovation and integrity continues to thrive.

“Larry’s positive impact on those around him and his contributions to our industry will always be remembered and cherished. As we mourn the loss of a true pioneer, we also celebrate the incredible life and achievements of Larry Kripke. His spirit will forever be the foundation of our company, guiding us as we continue to honor his legacy in all that we do.”

The funeral service is being held Sunday, Feb. 18 at 12:30 p.m. at Congregation B’Nai Israel in Sylvania, Ohio.
