ISRI Members Recognized for Top Fleet Safety Records

(Washington, DC) – The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) today announced the winners of its eighth annual Transportation Safety Awards. The Awards are presented to those members that have demonstrated a strong commitment to the safety of their employees and public through effective fleet safety programs. The fleet awards come in two categories: Best Fleet and Pacesetter Award.

“ISRI’s Transportation Safety Awards reflect the value and importance that the industry places on vehicle safety, by recognizing the top performers in the field both at company and individual levels,” said ISRI Senior Safety Director Commodor Hall. “ISRI would like to congratulate this year’s Transportation Safety Award winners for their strong commitment to ensuring that drivers and fleet safety are paramount in the industry.”

Based on class size, the Best Fleet Award is presented to the ISRI member with the lowest vehicle crash rate, and the lowest DOT Crash Recordable rate in 2019. The Pacesetter Award, also based on class, is granted to the ISRI member using the same criteria, but covering a three-year period, in this case January 1, 2017 – December 31, 2019.

This year’s award recipients, based on fleet classes are:

Best Fleet Award Small Class (300,000–500,000 miles):

  1. TJN Enterprises (Sioux Falls, S.D.),
  2. Southern Metals Recycling (Savannah, Ga.),
  3. Metal Recycling (Schnitzer Steel) (Johnston, R.I.)

Best Fleet Award Intermediate Class (500,001–1 million miles):

  1. Prolerized New England Co. (Schnitzer Northeast) (Concord, N.H.),
  2. JAT Inc. (A&W Iron and Metal) (Kewaskum, Wis.),
  3. Consolidated Scrap Resources (York, Pa.)

Best Fleet Award Medium Class (1,000,001–5 million miles):

  1. United Scrap Transport Fleet (Philadelphia),
  2. Rochester Iron & Metal (Rochester, Ind.),
  3. United Scrap Metal (Cicero, Ill.)

Best Fleet Award Large Class (more than 5 million miles):

  1. Page Trucking (Weedsport, N.Y.),
  2. OmniSource Transport (Fort Wayne, Ind.)

Pacesetter Award Small Class (300,000–500,000 miles):

  1. TJN Enterprises

Pacesetter Award Intermediate Class (500,001–1 million miles):

  1. Prolerized New England Co. (Schnitzer Northeast)

Pacesetter Award Medium Class (1,000,001–5 million miles):

  1. Metal Exchange Corp. (St. Louis)

Pacesetter Award Large Class (more than 5 million miles):

  1. Page Trucking

The 2020 Transportation Safety Awards were presented during ISRI’s Virtual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday October 21.
