(Washington, DC) - The Recycling Research Foundation (RRF) announced today that it raised more than $16,000 through its annual silent auction held during the ISRI Convention and Exposition. The money raised will help fund its National Foundation Scholarships and National Veterans Stipend, as well as research designed to benefit the industry. RRF, a nonprofit closely associated with the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), promotes the art and science of scrap processing and recycling through the research, sponsorships, technical assistance, and educational programs for the purpose of advancing the industry.
“ISRI is proud to have hosted the silent auction in support of the Recycling Research Foundation’s scholarship programs,” said Robin Wiener, ISRI president. “These scholarships will not only help advance research in the industry, but also help those receive an education who may not have the means through existing government and scholarship aid. Thank you to those who donated items and to those who bid on them.”
The National Foundation Scholarship is a $5,000 national scholarship aimed to support graduates students participating in a degree program that is applicable to the scrap recycling industry. The National Veterans Stipend is a stipend of up to $8,000 created for those who have served in the U.S. armed forces. The stipend covers $2,000 per year and is renewable for up to 4 years. The deadline for applying for both programs for the coming year is June 1, 2016.
There were a variety of items donated to be auctioned off, ranging from statues showcasing the artistic nature of scrap to products used in day-to-day operations. Bidders could choose from destination trips and hotels, scrap metal art, donated machinery, as well as a television donated by the winner of the 2016 Design For Recycling® award, Samsung Electronics America. Trade publications also auctioned off coveted advertisement space, and the Escama Studio exhibited up-cycled accessories to bid on.
