Emanuel Bodner Honored for Achievements in Recycling

Texas businessman receives ISRI’s Lifetime Achievement Award

(Washington, DC) – The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), the Voice of the Recycling Industry™, recently recognized Emanuel (Manny) Bodner of Bodner Metal & Iron Corporation in Houston, with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Bodner received the award for his life-long dedication and leadership to the industry and overall commitment to ISRI.

“Manny has been the force behind the industry’s efforts to promote the concept of design for recycling among manufacturers,” said Robin Wiener, president of ISRI. “Encouraging design for recycling has been a top priority for ISRI and there has been no stronger advocate than Manny. He leaves a strong legacy of not only making many more products easier to recycle, but to be done so in a safer manner for recycling workers. He has had a lasting impact on this industry of which he is to be proud.”

Manny Bodner joined his family company, Bodner Metal & Iron Corporation, after graduating from The University of Texas at Austin in 1969. Working alongside his father, Manny and his sister Karen have seen the company evolve from a single yard into one of the leading processors, brokers, and merchants of industrial and consumer scrap metals in the region. In 1995, he was named president. Last month Manny retired as president of Bodner Metal & Iron, beginning a new chapter in his life.

Bodner has served in a number of leadership roles for ISRI at both the national and chapter levels. Past positions include: Convention Chair of ISRI’s Gulf Coast Chapter; Vice-Chair of the Chapter Presidents Committee; President of the Recycling Research Foundation; and more. He is currently the Chair of the Design for Recycling Task Force.

Manny’s greatest source of pride is his family. He and his wife Jennifer have been married for almost 35 years and are proud parents of three and grandparents of one.

“Receiving ISRI’s Lifetime Achievement Award is certainly a most humbling and tremendous honor made even more special by having served alongside our members in support of our industry,” said Bodner.

The award was presented to Mr. Bodner during ISRI’s annual convention and exposition in Las Vegas. It is the largest gathering of recyclers in the world. Also presented with the award this year was Stanton Moss of Stanton A. Moss, Inc.
