The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. (ISRI) is the nonprofit trade association that is the “Voice of the Recycling Industry.” Based in Washington, D.C., ISRI represents more than 1,700 private and public for-profit companies that process, broker, and industrially consume all scrap commodities.  ISRI’s associate members include equipment and service providers that market to the scrap recycling industry. Manufacturers and sellers of equipment and services find value in promoting the scrap recycling industry through their membership in ISRI.

The Association assists members by providing service in several broad categories:

Safety

ISRI is dedicated to the ideal that our workers are our most precious commodities.  We owe it to them, and to their families and our communities to provide a safe and healthful work environment.  We owe them a workplace culture of safety.  As an industry, we need to establish a high bar for acceptable behavior among our peers.

Publications

ISRI provides publications electronically and in print that cover a wide range of issues including markets and research, safety, environmental, regulatory and legal information relevant to the industry.

Market Research and Reporting

ISRI’s commodities department provides current and historical reporting on the industry. Chief Economist and Director of Commodities Joe Pickard (joepickard@isri.org) speaks about the industry at a number of annual conferences and writes for ISRI’s scrap magazine.

Representation

ISRI represents the interests of the scrap recycling industry and our members to the executive branch, Capitol Hill, and state legislatures and regulatory agencies, as well as international bodies throughout the world.  Our goal is to help you stay informed and advocate on your behalf.

Regulatory and Legal Information

ISRI provides legal and regulatory information on matters pertaining to the scrap industry and tracks major trends at the federal and state level for the industry.

Networking and Education

ISRI provides the forums and opportunities for you to meet your peers from all over the world whether it be at the Association’s annual meetings and events, or your local chapter meeting.  In addition to that, the Association works to provide educational opportunities to those in the industry at all levels of employment.
