In a victory for the tire recycling industry, the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) recently passed a Resolution In Support of Sustainable Infrastructure Solutions to Improve Driver Safety and Support Economic Growth. The resolution, which ISRI advocated in support of, encourages further study and pilot projects to show the benefits of using rubberized asphalt in state-led infrastructure projects.
NLGA says in the resolution that it “encourages projects to demonstrate and further research the potential benefits of infrastructure projects that create more sustainable roadways and drive markets for recycled materials, such as scrap tires.” It further announces that it “will be an engaged forum for collaboration among states to pursue investments in high-quality, durable transportation infrastructure that increases driver safety and mitigates environmental impacts.”
The Resolution was sponsored by Lt. Governor Pamela Evette (R – South Carolina), Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist (D – Michigan), Lt. Governor Randy McNally (R – Tennessee), Lt. Governor Kevin Meyer (R – Alaska), Lt. Governor Lynn Rogers (D – Kansas), and Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio (D – Guam).
