The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), a bureau with the Department of Commerce issued a Notice of Inquiry and request for comments (83 FR 53411, October 23rd, 2018) regarding the costs associated with amending their regulations to restrict exports of used electronics and require additional recordkeeping for exports of used electronics.

For the past few years, ISRI has sent staff to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to gather intelligence about the trends in electronics and automobiles, meet with EPA and congressional officials, and identify opportunities where ISRI could help promote product designs towards easier and improved reuse and recycling.

The electronic recycling industry dodged a bullet after proposed amendment F18-18 was rejected during the most recent ICC annual conference. Its approval would have forced electronics recyclers to reconfigure service, repair and transportation operations concerning lithium-ion batteries.
