On December 4, ISRI Transportation Safety Director Commodor Hall attended the National Safety Council (NSC) Road to Zero Coalition Meeting in Washington, DC.
ISRI became a Road to Zero Coalition member last month. Approximately 150 people attended the meeting, another 250 participated on-line, and currently there are over 800 coalition members. Preventable motor vehicle related crashes are the third leading cause of death in the US behind heart attacks and cancer, and approximately 100 people are killed each day in a motor vehicle related crash. The coalition’s mission IS ZERO ROAD DEATHS BY 2050. NSC President and CEO Deborah Hersman, Associate Administrator for the Federal Highway Administration Beth Alicandri, and Deputy Executive Director/COO of the International Association of Chiefs of Police Terrance Cunningham were just a few of the guest speakers. The session also included an insurance panel which focused on distracted driving.
