OSHA Local Emphasis Regional Notice Issued for Region 8

OSHA recently renewed and posted a Local Emphasis Program (LEP) Notice (Directive Number: 19-07 CPL 04-05) on its website which focuses on scrap and recycling industries in Region 8 which covers CO, MT, ND, SD, UT, and WY.

The LEPs are enforcement strategies designed and implemented at the regional office and/or area office levels. These programs are intended to address hazards or industries that pose a particular risk to workers in the office's jurisdiction. These LEPs will be accompanied by outreach intended to make employers in the area aware of the program as well as the hazards that the programs are designed to reduce or eliminate. The LEP expires on September 30, 2019. The LEP in question references the following NACIS and SIC codes:
  • NACIS 423140, SIC 5015: Motor Vehicle Parts (Used) Merchant Wholesalers
  • NACIS 423930, SIC 5093: Recyclable Material Merchant Wholesalers
  • NACIS 562212, SIC 4953: Solid Waste Landfill
  • NACIS 562219, SIC 4953: Other Nonhazardous Waste Treatment and Disposal
We recommend that you review the notice in its entirety and practice due diligence to ensure employer responsibilities and a safe workplace for all of your employees. If you have any questions or require any assistance please contact ISRI Safety Analyst/Coordinator Elnaz Torabian.
