U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler presided over an America Recycles Day summit involving a wide range of stakeholders in the recycling industry, corporate brands, U.S. federal and state officials, and environmental NGOs.
I had the opportunity to meet Acting Administrator Wheeler in a small group gathering before the meeting, expressing our thanks to the agency for all the support they have shown to our industry and to reiterate our top-line messages about scrap versus waste definitions and generating demand for recyclable materials.
In the summit event, many participants had the opportunity to give a brief synopsis of how they see the future of recycling in the United States, and I expanded on the topics noted above. In the end, we were asked to sign on to a high-level pledge to work together “to build on our existing efforts to address the challenges facing our nation’s recycling system…”
