Last week, ISRI submitted comments to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative for its annual Congressionally-mandated National Trade Estimate report of trade barriers around the world.
In the submission
, ISRI provided a status report of the combined impacts of China’s import restrictions on U.S. scrap exports and the U.S.-China trade war. The comments draw attention to the lost export sales anticipated, which are projected to be about $1.75 billion in 2018, a figure set to increase with the import bans coming in 2019 and 2020.
This report will be sent to Congress and serves as a basis for the U.S. Trade Representative’s annual hearing on the state of U.S. trade and trade policy early next year.
