ISRI Continues to Engage Law Enforcement

On October 7-9, ISRI exhibited at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference in Orlando, FL.

Director of Law Enforcement Outreach Brady Mills, and John Bianculli, legislative chair of the Southeast Chapter, spoke with chiefs of police and other senior law enforcement from across the country regarding ISRI member interaction with law enforcement regarding metals theft. Brady and John spoke on the resources members provided to law enforcement such as ScrapTheftAlert.com and StopMetalsTheft.org.

Also during the conference, New England Chapter President Jerry Sjogren, safety director for EL Harvey, addressed the IACP’s Crime Prevention Committee (ISRI holds a seat on the CPC) and Highway Safety Committee. Jerry, also a member of the National Waste Recycling Association’s (NWRA) Safety Committee, spoke on the subject of distracted driving. Law enforcement and the waste and recycling industries share the growing concern of fatalities suffered by officers, industry employees, and the general public caused by distracted drivers.

Jerry and ISRI staff will participate in a subsequent meeting scheduled for November 13, at the Waste Connections (NWRA safety committee member) regional offices in Knoxville, TN. The AAA Foundation, National Safety Council, Solid Waste Association of North America, AT&T, Volpe Center, and CARI, have also committed to assisting in this endeavor.
