The Chinese Government announced on April 19, that more scrap materials will be prohibited for import over the course of the next two years. The new prohibited items include the following:
- By end-2018: steel slag, post-industrial plastics, compressed auto pieces, small electric motors and insulated wires, and vessels.
- By end-2019: wood pellets, stainless steel scrap, titanium scrap and other metals scrap.
ISRI has learned that plastic pellets – regardless if sourced from residential or industrial collections – will be allowed for import into China as long as the pellets contained in a shipment are uniform in size, color and shape and shipped within a container. We are seeking formal acknowledgement of this in writing from the Chinese Government; until we do, we recommend that our members use their best judgement when determining whether or not to export to China.
The announcement can be read in English and in Chinese.
