In good southern fashion, recyclers in South Carolina welcomed legislators back for the 2018 legislative session with breakfast at the state capitol in Columbia.
ISRI joined members at the event organized by the South Carolina Recyclers Association on Wednesday, January 17, designed to introduce the industry to new and veteran lawmakers. Attendees appreciated the hot meal strategically served just prior to when the House of Representatives and Senate were scheduled to start the session. Most notably, while the sessions ended up being canceled that morning due to an ice storm, it didn’t stop the more than 150 legislators and staff from enjoying the industry’s southern hospitality. The gathering allowed recyclers to share their stories while ISRI videos played on large monitors displaying vibrant images from the industry. Information packets were distributed to anyone interested with the industry's state lobbyist team on hand to secure follow-up opportunities.
ISRI encourages members to engage with lawmakers and applauds the South Carolina Recyclers Association for organizing this event and appreciates the opportunity to participate. If ISRI can assist with organizing something similar in your state, contact Danielle Waterfield.
