Last week, the Chinese government published a preliminary list of Chinese companies that are likely to obtain import licenses for scrap shipments into China, including the prescribed materials and quotas for which they will be allowed to import.
As we have been advising, such a list can be used as one way to verify if your customer has the government’s approval to import scrap material. That said, we are told that this list is just a “proposed list” of companies likely to be approved for the first tranche of licenses. We expect to learn shortly the final approved list as well as a second tranche of licenses for import into southern Chinese ports, and we will share that with the membership once available.
