ISRI leadership and staff are in China this week to meet with government officials and industry partners to gain more information on scope and timing of China’s import restrictions.
In preparation for the trip, I met with the Chinese Embassy in Washington last week to reiterate ISRI’s support for China’s overarching goal of improving its environment while also expressing concern over the specifics being proposed and the need for thresholds that are consistent with global norms. We are meeting this week in Beijing with U.S. Embassy officials to exchange information on the effects of China’s policy changes already hitting our industry. We will also meet with some of our counterpart associations to get their insights on what is yet to come, and we hope to meet directly with the Chinese government to express our views. We will share our findings when we return next week.
