At the request of the National Slag Association (NSA), Tony Smith represented ISRI at an NSA meeting and provided a session on mobile equipment safety and best practices in the scrap recycling industry.
The meeting focused on the innovations and advancements that various industries have made within their safety programs. The audience was comprised of heavy industry operations and safety managers. Tony gave an update ASME B30.25, (Tony is a member of that committee which is reviewing the standard that includes provisions that apply to the construction, installation, operation, inspection, and maintenance of scrap and material handlers). He also gave an overview of ISRI’s powered industrial vehicle and material handler train-the-trainer programs and how these programs are key in ensuring that scrap recycling workers are provided with current and consistent training materials to enhance safety in the recycling industry. Working closely with other national associations to share ideas and increase safety awareness across industries is a continuing priority for ISRI.
