I want to begin this Ferrous Beat by sending our prayers out to all those effected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. It is hard for those of us who live in areas that do not see such devastation to understand the impact it has on their lives. We wish you strength and determination through this difficult period.
As fall starts to work its way in, hard to believe another summer has passed. Since our last note we have had a board meeting in DC and our annual “Roundtables” in Chicago. We have discussed many items that will continue to impact our industry in the coming months and years such as transportation, potential Chapter realignment, China’s changing rules, and other items. That is why your involvement is critical. When you least expect it, something is happening that will impact your company and our industry. I will admit, staying involved is not cheap and can be tiring…..but you have to be engaged to be ready for the next issue that impacts.
The value of the dollar and demand have helped us have a good summer even though there has been the “September Surprise”, I think overall we are in a good position for winter and 2018. Of course I tend to be an optimist.
I do want to remind you that we have several events and meetings coming up soon – Shredder Ops Forum in October, Industry Leadership Training in November, Board and Governance meetings in November and January in DC, and it is never too early to start planning for the convention in Vegas this coming April.
I wish you and your family the best during the coming holiday periods and again my heart goes out to all impacted by the storms of the past weeks.
