Many members were introduced to the project Scrap Yard: Innovators of Recycling at ISRI’s convention in New Orleans. The Jewish Museum of Maryland, with support from ISRI, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and recyclers around the country, is producing the
first national traveling exhibit on the history and technology of our industry. The exhibit is slated to open in Baltimore in October 2018 and travel to several science and history museums across the country. I recently met with the museum CEO, Marvin Pinkert, and he tells me that they are still looking for three things – 1) great photos … especially of yard operations pre-1950; 2) compelling artifacts … both in terms of models of equipment and unusual relics saved from the yards; and 3) additional national sponsors. If you want to be a part of this exciting project please contact Marvin before the summer is out. And, of course, please feel free to contact me at (202) 662-8512 as well with any questions about this effort (or anything else!).
