ISRI members are celebrating two legislative wins on matters of great significance to the recycling industry in the state of North Carolina.
Following years of diligent advocacy efforts, the legislature enacted Superfund liability protections for recyclers into state law by incorporating federal provisions in the Superfund Recycling Equity Act (SREA). In the final days of the legislative session, the state Senate passed H 402, the NC SREA Superfund clarification bill. The bill was presented to the Governor for signature on June 29. In another win, the industry successfully inserted language into the state budget bill to reauthorize the mercury switch recovery program. The legislature overrode the Governor’s veto of the budget bill (S 257) and therefore, the extension of the mercury switch removal program until 2021 is now law.
ISRI congratulates the ISRI Southeast Chapter and the leadership of the Recycling Association of North Carolina on this tremendous win, and thanks them for their hard work and dedication towards these industry priorities!!!
