Next week, ISRI will attend the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) Annual Convention in Hong Kong.
The event is well-timed and well-located as the industry braces for information from the Chinese government on potential import bans as a result if its National Sword customs crackdown. Immediately after the conference, Chairman-elect Brian Shine, Past Chairman Doug Kramer, ISRI President Robin Wiener and Senior Director for International Affairs Adina Renee Adler will travel to Beijing for meetings with key government officials and industry partners with the intent to gain clarity on government policies that impact scrap trade. The delegation will press for greater cooperation and information exchange to prevent disruptions through AQSIQ inspection procedures, scrap versus waste definitional confusion in Chinese, regulatory requirements or other yet unknown policies.
We welcome ISRI member input for these meetings – please reach out to Adina Renee Adler if you have suggestions and/or anecdotes.
