SREA Protections Extended into South Carolina

Building off its success in Tennessee last year, ISRI’s Southeast Chapter notched another victory in the fight to extend Superfund Equity Recycling Act (SREA) protections in the states with the passage of South Carolina SB 181.

The bill amends the state's hazardous waste cleanup law, clarifying that SREA provisions apply to not only federal cleanup actions, but state actions as well, effective immediately. Similar bills in North Carolina and Texas are also on track to pass this year.

To benefit from the Federal and state protections, you must take "reasonable care" to make sure facilities you ship to are in compliance with environmental laws. Your ISRI membership entitles you to drastically discounted due diligence compliance reports on consuming facilities, but these reports must be ordered by May 31! You can learn more at www.ISRI.org/SREA or by contacting Shelley Backstrom.
