ISRI staff was on-hand a Resource Recycling’s 2017 Plastics Recycling Conference in New Orleans last week to meet with and engage with its members as well as introduce themselves to potential members.
Jonathan Levy, ISRI’s Plastics Division liaison, moderated a highly technical session that focused on the intersection of academia and industry. The session demonstrated how universities can play a role in advancing plastics recycling and assist individual companies with unique situations.
Through our membership in the North American Plastics Recycling Alliance (NAPRA), ISRI discussed the future of plastics recycling and how coalition members may support it. Of great interest and focus at the meeting were the topics of Sustainable Materials Management and the Circular Economy. These concepts, while similar can lead individual manufacturers and brand owners to make vastly different strategic decisions in their use of recycled vs. virgin materials. NAPRA is looking to develop guidance documents that may help these brand owners as they seek to develop their material use strategies.
Prior to the opening of the conference, ISRI’s Plastics Division held a PVC Scrap Specifications meeting.
