The International Aluminium Institute (IAI) and the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on creating standards for measuring and verifying sustainable practices and recycling in the global aluminum industry.
The move aims to offer aluminum consumers reassurance of manufacturers’ sustainability claims as they move toward lighter-weight aluminum products, according to IAI. The organizations will share measurement, reporting, and verification frameworks and selected industry data on a variety of environmental issues. The IAI and ASI executive teams will meet periodically and report annually to their respective boards on the status of the collaboration, they say.
