Oregon State Senator Learns First Hand about Recycling from ISRI Member

On Wednesday, February 22, Pacific Northwest Chapter President Peter Van Houten, of ISRI member Bob’s Metals Inc., hosted Senator Lew Frederick at its facility in Portland, OR.

OregonSenatorSenator Frederick, representing district 22 (North Portland), is a member of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, vice-chairman of the House Education Committee, and serves on the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Information Technology. While touring the Bob’s Metals facility, Senator Frederick was very impressed with the state of the art stormwater treatment facility and the organization of managing incoming and outgoing materials. Senator Frederick was provided with information on ISRI and the impact recycling has in Oregon on jobs, business development, and exports. He commented that more legislators should take the time to visit recycling facilities to better understand exactly what occurs, and thanked Peter and Bob’s Metals Owner Mike Weinstein for the opportunity to visit.

If you would like assistance in scheduling a tour of your facility for an elected official, contact ISRI Senior Director of Government Relations Danielle Waterfield.
