ISRI Safety Looks Back at 2016

The ISRI Safety Team was busy in 2016 conducting numerous outreach and member activities.

As a result in 2016 there were 23 Safety Blueprints performed at member facilities. Additionally, the Blueprint format and process were revised to focus on safety management and culture issues. There were also 19 Material Handler Train the Trainer (MHTTT) classes provided to members allowing for interaction with 164 individual facility personnel. Another 215 site personnel participated in the ISRI General Safety Awareness training program. Transportation outreach services including DOT assessments along with vehicle inspection and defensive driving classes were provided to over 360 transportation employees.

A highlight of the year was the annual Safety Stand-Down Day (SSDD). More than 60 companies representing over 110 facilities and 2,200 employees (including temporary workers and contractors) participated in last year’s Stand-Down Day, and were publically recognized on the ISRI website.

Along with outreach services, staff also developed and presented webinars addressing key safety topics including; Accident Investigation, OSHA Recordkeeping, Lead Concerns in the Recycling Industry, and Safe Operation of Power Industrial Trucks. And in 2016 we introduced a new safety tool – the Compressed Gas Cylinder video training and pocket cards.
