MISSION STATEMENTS

Audit

The committee is responsible for recommending an auditor to the Board of Directors, ensuring that a proper accounting system is in place and ensuring the security of the association’s assets. (Section 1.6.1.2 of the ISRI Policy Manual).

Challenges & Opportunities

The mission of the Challenges & Opportunities Committee is to focus on the dynamic changes within the recycling industry, thus identifying future trends, opportunities and roadblocks facing the industry and the association, and report and, as appropriate, make recommendations to the Board annually (or sooner as appropriate) as to how to address what has been identified. The Committee should not itself identify solutions, but instead recommend how the association should go about finding such.

Circle Steering

The Circle’s mission to bring together like minded companies to focus on improving operational safety within member facilities. That focus is aimed at improving employee safety, setting industry safety benchmarks, reducing workman’s compensation costs, and making the recycling industry a safer place to work.

Communications

Provides strategic and tactical advice on key member and industry communications and public relations issues, along with editorial guidance to Scrap magazine.

Convention

The mission of the ISRI Convention Committee is to provide guidance and oversight for ISRI’s Annual Convention and Exposition, including identification of future locations, structure assessment, and pertinence of programs for the industry and current ISRI membership.

Education & Training

Oversees the development, production, and implementation of ISRI education and training programs for all levels of employees in the scrap recycling industry workforce and across multiple platforms.

Finance

The mission of the ISRI Finance Committee is to address all Association financial matters including approval of the ISRI annual budget, financial statements, investments, and member dues. The Committee shall, at least annually, review the dues and other revenues of the Association. (Section 1.5.4.2 of the ISRI Policy Manual). The Finance Committee shall address financial matters with appropriate transparency for the benefit of the ISRI membership.

Government Relations

Develops strategic guidance on key industry issues and public policy positions at the federal, state and local levels.

Leadership

The mission of the ISRI Leadership Committee is to make nominations for candidates for the Board of Directors and the Officers of the Association, identify future leaders of the Association and provide leadership development

Membership

The mission of the ISRI Membership Committee (“Committee”) is to provide guidance and oversight on ISRI’s membership structure; recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies; and benefits to ensure ISRI remains relevant, delivers value, is responsive to member needs, and generates revenue to support the work of the association.

MRF

The mission of the MRF Committee is to provide a forum where processors of residential recycling (whether single-stream, dual-stream, or drop off programs), and the consumers of the materials generated by those programs, can exchange pertinent information, discuss and respond to emerging issues, and stay abreast of domestic and global economic developments and markets. Although jointly chaired by ISRI leaders from the plastics and paper divisions, recyclers and consumers from other commodities (glass, ferrous, non-ferrous, etc.) with a stake in residential recycling are encouraged to participate. 

Safe Operations

The mission of the ISRI Safe Operations Committee is to address issues affecting members’ day-to-day operations, including but not limited to quality, safety, technology, transportation, insurance, and environmental compliance. The Safe Operations Committee should be at the forefront of changing the safety culture within the recycling industry.

Shredders

The mission of the ISRI Shredders Committee is to develop positions, procedures, and tools to support all aspects of shredder operations.

Trade

The mission of the ISRI Trade Committee is to address issues relating to the international trade of scrap materials, including the development of advocacy positions and addressing compliance issues related to international trade.


 

 

Chapter Presidents

The mission of the ISRI Council of Chapter Presidents is to provide a forum for Chapter Presidents to share information and generally discuss issues and problems of common interest with the goal to resolve them in the best interests of the members.

Consumers Council

Equipment and Service Providers Council

The mission of the ISRI Equipment & Service Providers Council is to improve the overall membership experience of Equipment and Service Providers within ISRI, and for those who participate in the convention, ensure a successful experience.

ISRI PAC Leadership Council

To broaden the understanding and increase participation in the political activities of ISRI and provide strategic planning and execution. 

ISRI Safety & Environmental Council

The mission of the ISRI Safety & Environmental Council (ISEC) is to promote an ongoing professional development platform for scrap recycling operations that provides a “safe” forum for the sharing of information between scrap facility owners, managers, operators and safety and environmental professionals within the industry, regardless of size and expertise. ISEC’s mission is inclusive of all member participants who are striving to become more aware and educated about best practices in both basic and complex safety as well as more sophisticated health and environmental compliance, mitigation and response practices.

Legal Council

The mission of the ISRI Council of Legal Counsel is to provide support for in-house counsel within ISRI member companies.

Women in Recycling Council

The mission of the Women in Recycling Council (WIR) is to build community amongst the women in recycling as well as increase knowledge, skills, and visibility into management and leadership roles.

Young Executives Council

To create a forum in which young professionals connect and engage via ISRI activities that foster personal and professional growth in the recycling industry. 

 


 


Electronics

The mission of the ISRI Electronics Division is to oversee the work of the association in the area of reuse and recycling of electronics.

Ferrous

The mission of the ISRI Ferrous Division is to provide a forum where ferrous processors and consumers may exchange pertinent information, discuss and respond to emerging issues, and stay abreast of domestic and global economic developments and markets.

Nonferrous

The mission of the ISRI Nonferrous Division is to provide a forum where nonferrous processors and consumers may exchange pertinent information – in accordance with ISRI’s anti-trust guidelines, discuss and respond to emerging issues, and stay abreast of domestic and global economic developments and markets.

Paper

The mission of the ISRI Paper Division is to provide a forum where recyclers of recovered fiber and consumers may exchange pertinent information, discuss and respond to emerging issues, and stay abreast of domestic and global economic developments and markets.

Plastics

The mission of the ISRI Plastics Division is to provide a forum where plastics processors and consumers may exchange pertinent information, discuss and respond to emerging issues, and stay abreast of domestic and global economic developments and markets.

Tires & Rubber

The mission of the ISRI Tire & Rubber Division is to provide a forum where tire and rubber processors and consumers may exchange pertinent information, discuss and respond to emerging issues, and stay abreast of domestic and global economic developments and markets.


 

Business Development Subcommittee

Advises on the implementation of programs supporting non-dues revenue generation for the association.

Community Relations Subcommittee

The mission of ISRI’s Community Relations Subcommittee is to develop positions, procedures, and tools for member facilities to use in their efforts to build positive relationships with their neighbors and communities.

Design for Recycling® Subcommittee

The mission of ISRI’s Design for Recycling® Task Force is to oversee ISRI’s efforts to expand awareness and implementation of Design for Recycling® principles.

Fleet Management Subcommittee

Champion a commitment to fleet safety by advancing management strategies that safeguard business assets and affirm the value of human life.

Investment Subcommittee

The Subcommittee is responsible for overseeing ISRI’s investments consistent with ISRI’s Investment Policy within ISRI’s Policy Manual.

Materials Theft Subcommittee

The mission of the ISRI Materials Theft Task Force is to oversee ISRI’s work on the issue of materials theft, with particular emphasis on implementing the updated Recommendations of the ISRI Materials Theft Working Group.

SREA Subcommittee

The mission is to provide and manage a system to assist members in compliance with SREA guidelines to prevent potential Superfund liability in the future. The system provides members “Reasonable Care” due diligence reports for locations and companies receiving scrap recycling materials from ISRI members at significantly reduced costs. The system is designed to enhance the value of ISRI membership to member companies.

State Subcommittee

A subcommittee of the Government Relations committee, its mission is to identify and support the advocacy goals and priorities of ISRI members and their regional chapters at the state and local level.

Workforce Development Subcommittee

The mission of ISRI’s Workforce Development Subcommittee is assess the recycling industry’s workforce needs now and in the future and to develop tools to address these needs. 

Youth Outreach Subcommittee

To create opportunities for youth and their families to learn and engage in scrap recycling efforts and inspire them to think about possible careers in the scrap and recycling industry.
