ISRI officially submitted public comments to the U.S. Treasury calling for the immediate end to the suspension of the U.S. Mint’s Mutilated Coin Redemption Program. The program was put on hold more than a year ago based on fear of counterfeiting. In its comments
, ISRI highlighted the suspension’s harmful impact on the recycling industry and called for proper safeguards to be put in place with the reinstitution of the program. These safeguards include: certification, annual limitations, chain of custody, and material authentication. ISRI will continue to reach out to the U.S. Treasury and Capitol Hill to leverage its expertise on this issue and offer guidance to get the program back on track. We look forward to increased cooperation on this issue on the part of the government.
