ISRI Meets with Foreign Delegation from Turkey
ISRI hosted a visit by the Turkish Steel Association/representatives from the Turkish Embassy interested in increased trade with U.S. companies.
Turkey is a huge market for ferrous scrap originating in the U.S. Indeed, Turkey is currently the top importer of ferrous scrap from the U.S. Recent actions initiated by the U.S. steel industry seeking antidumping measures and countervailing duties have raised concern in the Turkish steel community about those measures and duties but also the potential disruption to the global supply patterns of ferrous scrap. ISRI explained its longstanding position calling for the free AND fair trade of scrap materials. Despite their entreaties, ISRI explained that it cannot interfere in a dispute in a related industry--ISRI can only become engaged when scrap exports are threatened directly. This matter will be discussed further at the Trade Committee meeting in San Francisco on Wednesday, October 23, 2013.
