Electronics Recycling
A Message From The President

The Voice of the Recycling Industry

Electronics recycling is nothing new to ISRI members. For more than 100 years, ISRI and its predecessor organizations have comprised companies that process, broker, and industrially consume scrap commodities including metals, paper, plastics, glass, textiles, rubber, and electronics.

Today, ISRI represents more than 1,400 companies at more than 3,000 facilities worldwide. A quarter of ISRI members handle electronics either exclusively or as a part of other recycling activities. ISRI members have been in the electronics recycling business since the days of the first Univac computers.

Our members' experience in recycling, our strength in numbers, and our seasoned professional staff offer a comprehensive package of services not available elsewhere. ISRI's government relations staff has the access and strategies to affect recycling policy. Our educational programs and networking opportunities help build synergies that strengthen our industry.

ISRI is the "Voice of the Recycling Industry." I invite you to learn more about what ISRI can offer your company, to join our association, and to help make that voice even stronger.

Robin Wiener
President

ISRI Electronics Recycling Policy Statement
E-Recycling is a rapidly growing segment of the private sector scrap recycling industry that has been an essential element of both the economic and environmental life of the United States for more than 100 years. The scrap commodity market is governed by the laws of supply and demand whereby artificial interference in the marketplace can cause significant disruptions to the long term flow of materials. It is in this context that the industry has been working to find a model to successfully recycle the millions of tons of electronic scrap generated annually in this country.

Precious Metals from E-Scrap: Hype or Hope?

PowerPoint presentations from a session during ISRI's Commodities Roundtable Forum, Sept. 13-15, 2006: Recent market trends have many traditional scrap dealers asking if mining gold, platinum, and copper from electronic scrap is worth the hassle. Does the quantity of metal and precious metals offset the negative costs of this kind of processing? What to do with printed circuit boards? Can electronics scrap impact the precious metals market? Is there money to be made? Speakers included Jim Glavin, United Recycling Industries; Theo Lehner M.Sc., Rönnskär Smelter; and precious metals analyst Carlos Sanchez, CPM Group.
