Robin K. Wiener, President
Robin K. Wiener joined the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. (ISRI), in 1989 to direct the association’s environmental compliance activities. On June 2, 1997, she was appointed ISRI executive director, after serving as association assistant counsel and director of environmental compliance. In March 2000, ISRI’s board conferred on her the title of president. As president of ISRI, Robin manages the day to day operations of the 1,600 member trade association representing processors, brokers and consumers of scrap recyclables including metals, paper, plastic, glass, textiles, rubber and electronics; provides strategic direction for the association, and oversees 38 staff members. The Washington, D.C. based office publishes an award-winning bimonthly magazine, manages an active federal and state lobbying program, provides environmental, health and safety guidance and training, tracks commodities markets, and provides a variety of other services to the associations member companies.
Ms. Wiener serves as an industry advisor on the Department of Commerce International Trade Advisory Committee on Steel (ITAC 12). In addition, she is currently serving a two-year term as a Board member of the Department of Justice’s National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) Advisory Committee administered through the Bureau of Justice Assistance. She has also been a White House Conference on Small Business appointee, serving on the Environmental Protection Task Force and identifying issues affecting the scrap processing industry and the small business community. In 2002, Robin was appointed by then EPA Administrator Whitman to serve on the National Advisory Council for Environmental Policy and Technology (NACEPT), Superfund Subcommittee. The Subcommittee finished its work in March of 2004.
An attorney and engineer, Ms. Wiener earned a J.D. degree cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center and a B.S.E. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. She has done additional graduate study in environmental engineering at George Washington University School of Engineering and Applied Science.
Ms. Wiener is the co-author of the RCRA Compliance & Enforcement Manual, published in 1994 by Shepard’s McGraw-Hill as part of its Environmental Law Series.
Ms. Wiener is a member of the New York and District of Columbia Bars. Her other professional affiliations include the American, New York, and D.C. Bar Associations; and ASAE. Robin is a Past Chair of the NAM Council of Manufacturing Associations, is a member of the Key Industry Associations Committee (KIAC) of the ASAE, and is a member of the U.S. Chamber Committee of 100. She is also a Director of the International Environment Council of the Bureau of International Recycling in Brussels.
Prior to joining ISRI, Ms. Wiener worked on environmental technical and policy issues for ICF Incorporated and Uniroyal, Inc. She has also worked for the Washington office of the law firm of Sidley and Austin.
