Research Analyst

Under the direction of the Chief Economist, compile and process data relating to commodities, recycling, the economy and trade.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Compile and process data relating to research areas including but not limited to commodities (prices, supply demand and inventories), recycling (volumes of recyclables processed and consumed, recycling rates, etc.) the economy (employment, inflation, productivity, industrial production, etc.), and trade (exports, imports and balance of trade).
  • Organize data into tables and graphs that are easy to understand for dissemination to a range of audiences.
  • Assist the Chief Economist in drafting content and disseminating research findings in presentations, testimony and in weekly, quarterly and annual ISRI publications including the annual ISRI commodity Yearbook.
  • Conduct independent research on different sectors of the recycling industry including but not limited to recyclers of electronics, plastics, tires and rubber and other sectors.
  • Devise methods and procedures for collecting and processing data, utilizing knowledge of available sources of data and various econometric and sampling techniques.
  • Respond to requests from members, staff, the public and press regarding information about the scrap recycling industry, as appropriate.

    Monitor and stay abreast on the latest trends in the economy, recycling industry, commodity and scrap markets.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

    The successful candidate will have:

  • An undergraduate degree in economics or related field
  • 5-7 years professional experience in a research setting


    Preferred Education/Skills

  • Graduate degree in economics and recycling industry or trade association experience preferred.
