Overall we still feel there is a high chance that this bout of consolidation could turn into a more pronounced sell-off, but it would probably take a show of strength by the dollar to trigger this. |

Monday Report: June 29, 2009 This morning's LME is generally firmer (ex-tin and zinc) but said to trading "cautiously" in the absence of any fresh news...Monday's drawdown in copper stocks supportive...aluminum inventories, meanwhile, increased 5,075 mt. Comex copper expected to open on the plus side... |
|
Friday Report: June 26, 2009 The metals put in another strong day yesterday with gains seen across the board led by copper's rise to $5,145 up from Tuesday's low of $4,680. The extent of the reversal from Monday/Tuesday means that a run up to the highs at $5,380 looks very possible and the mantra of buy the dips still holds true. |

Group Helps Solve Copper Theft PHILADELPHIA -- Scott Dale Graves, 37, has been accused of stealing three 25-pound spools of copper valued at $200 from the Flint Energies warehouse in Warner Robins, Ga. He is being held at the Houston County jail in Perry, Ga.
Warner Robins Police credited the Middle Georgia Metal Theft Committee for playing a key role in
leading to the arrest of Graves. The group is an alliance of recyclers, other local businesses and
industries and law enforcement officers whose goal is to reduce metal thefts in the area.
Sanjab Recycling, a South Macon, Ga., recycler and member of the alliance, contacted police about some copper it had purchased and later identified Graves as the seller of the metal. |

Friday Report: February 6, 2009 Given the afternoon rally in equities it is surprising that copper did not lead the base metals complex higher, maybe they are reluctant to head higher ahead of today's employment report. Also whereas the equities have been weak in recent days and therefore had some short-covering room, the metal have already had two good days under their belt, Tuesday and Wednesday, so the short-covering was less of an issue. Friday Report: November 14, 2008 The metals tested lower yesterday and despite some negative news in the form of LME stocks, especially with aluminium's 44Kt rise, the metals ended up in positive territory. Given the poor economic climate and the initial weakness in equities, the ability of the metals to hold up may well be a pointer that the waves of redemption selling have slowed, at least for a while, and are matched by short covering and bargain hunting. |

Friday Report: November 7, 2008 Metals had another down day, they opened weak, tried to rally, but ended up failing to do so. One of the most noticeable changes of late is that copper's spread has switched to a contango, suggesting the fears of tightness have gone—a bit like the fear of inflation. Indeed as central banks around the world make interest rate cut after cut, at least it looks as though most central bankers and governments are now trying to get ahead of the curve...In other markets, oil is at $61/barrel, gold is up $7/oz and that is with the dollar showing some strength too. The euro is at 1.2765, the dollar index is at 86.45 and the yen is at 97.60...BaseMetals.com |

Friday Report: October 24, 2008 Taking a cue from plunging global equity markets, this morning (Friday) the LME is again weaker with multi-year lows posted for copper and aluminum...nickel was trading at levels last seen in July 2003...a stronger dollar also not helping (it's at a two-year high)...and in New York this a.m., Comex copper is expected to open—you guessed it—much lower... |

Monday Report: October 13, 2008 The markets around the world wait on tenterhooks to see if the G7, European and US talks over the weekend and actions manage to throw the markets a life-line. So far they seem to like what they see. Overall the markets are off to a firmer start, we have seen this before recently with just dead-cat bounces emerging, however, the more concerted effort governments seem to be making does suggest some confidence may return and confidence is something the markets badly need. |

Monday Report: September 29, 2008 The LME is off to a weak start early based on a weaker dollar and uncertainties surrounding the House vote over the proposed $700 billion rescue/bailout plan. Comex copper is expected to open sharply lower this morning. |
|
Friday Report: September 26, 2008 Metals put in a quiet day's trading on Thursday with the market generally taking a back seat compared to the equities. Although the metals should benefit from the US rescue package (when one is eventually agreed on), it did look as though the metals were lagging behind as they faced a headwind from a stronger dollar and poor economic data. Friday Report: September 12, 2008 The metals once again put in a good close on Thursday with all but aluminium closing in positive territory with zinc leading the advance with a $50 gain. Friday Report: September 5, 2008 London, 05 September 2008—The markets had a turbulent day yesterday with the Dow under pressure, the dollar extending its gains, while the metals started well, gained momentum before reversing; so all in all a muddled day, with the dollar once again keeping the metals in check and concerns about the economic slowdown weighing on most asset classes. Friday Report: August 29, 2008 London, 29 August 2008—Apart from lead, the base metals struggled yesterday which points to further consolidation in the near term, especially with the Labor Day holiday in the US on Monday. Monday Report: August 11, 2008 Base metals are again on the defensive in the absence of any fresh positive demand news and the influence of a firmer dollar. |
Friday Report: August 8, 2008 London, August 2008—The metals put in another choppy day's trading yesterday with prices giving back earlier gains as the dollar climbed to 5 month highs and as oil drifted. Generally there is little fresh news to drive the markets so they are being jostled by outside factors, mainly the dollar and oil. (Compliments of BaseMetals.com) |

Monday Report: August 4, 2008 London, August 2008—The metals ended the week on a weak note, with copper down at $7,900, having had a range last week of $7,835 to $8,160. Lead was the strongest performer with prices pushing up to $2,293 before easing, zinc had a go at rallying but ran out of steam, while the rest extended recent lows, even though they managed to close off the lows by the close on Friday. Going forward with LME stocks tending to be up and with the summer slowdown in full swing, it may be hard for the metals not to drift further. (Compliments of BaseMetals.com) |
|
|
Friday Report: August 1, 2008 London, August 2008—The metals continued to struggle with copper and zinc both finding it difficult to hold on to windfall gains. However, poor economic data reminded the market of the weak underlying demand side fundamentals that might be signalling the end of the commodity boom. However the poor economic data sent the dollar lower, which initially masked the impact the data had on overall metal sentiment. (Compliments of BaseMetals.com) |

Monday Report: July 28, 2008 This morning's LME said to be the feeling the effects of a some seasonal slowness confirmed by low turnover...zinc and nickel were lower while lead was leading the upside early...copper a bit firmer along with a weaker dollar...traders look for Comex copper to open a bit lower this a.m. |

Friday (Thursday) Report: July 25, 2008 This morning's LME is mixed...copper and aluminum were up early, responding, in part, to yesterday's mostly bearish dollar news...lead & zinc eased, and nickel has moved a bit higher from this morning's "officials." London gold was last indicated at either side of $931, reflecting the weaker dollar...platinum @ $1,729/$1,749 gaining back some recent hefty losses...in New York this morning, Comex copper is expected to open slightly firmer...yesterday, the Sept contract closed some eight cents lower @ $3.5770—a six week low. |
|
Monday Report: July 21, 2008 A modest up day early Monday on the LME, however, aluminum was trading at a five week low...lead higher on the latest fall in inventories...traders expect Comex copper to open higher this a.m. |

Friday (Thursday) Report: July 17, 2008 Thursday is showing a bit of a mixed bag on the LME...copper inched higher while aluminum was trading at a three-week low early...nickel, tin and zinc were up...lead was down...some market players see lower crude oil prices as a confirmation of lower global industrial production and thus lower demand for all metals...London gold was last indicated @ $964/$965 – that's a bit firmer...Comex copper expected to open a penny or so higher...yesterday, the September contract closed nearly 5 cents lower. |

Monday Report: July 14, 2008 Monday's LME is generally steady to slightly lower early with on-going supply concerns underpinning several base metals...London gold was also a bit lower on a firmer dollar...traders expect Comex copper to open...buyers and sellers, however, focusing on the bigger financial picture currently affecting U.S. equities. |
|
Friday Report: July 11, 2008 London, 11 July 2008—Lead was once again the clear leader in the base metals camp yesterday, with prices up 12% at one stage to take the total rebound to some 30% off the recent lows. The run higher in lead and zinc was boosted by a sharp turn around in aluminium, which received a fillip from news that the top 20 aluminium smelters in China were to cut output by between 5% and 10% starting in July to save electricity consumption. With these metals running higher the others had little option but to follow. Compliments of BaseMetals.com. |

Monday Report: June 30, 2008 Copper and tin seem set to push higher and while oil is strong aluminium may follow too. The other metals probably have considerable room on the upside if short-covering emerges and it may be that a run up in copper does spark general short covering. |
|
Friday Report: June 27, 2008 The metals put in a stronger day on Thursday with copper, tin and zinc doing the most, but all put in a good performance...the main driving force for the base metals rally was another bout of dollar weakness and although the run up in the metals started to generate its own momentum we would be wary if the dollar started to find its footing again. |

Friday Report: June 20, 2008 Copper pushed higher yesterday buoyed by disruptions, although by the close the strike at Cuajone in Peru was lifted, which pulled copper back off the $8,400 level. However the fact that copper is now not too far away from all time highs at $8,880 at a time when the Western world economy is set to slow, highlights the ongoing tight fundamentals. |

Friday Report: June 13, 2008 The base metals remained under pressure on Thursday as the dollar was upbeat, but with some positive economic data and some bullish insight into China's likely demand following the tragic earthquake, plus disruptions in metal supply, the fundamentals seem tighter if anything. Indeed with lead and zinc now down heavily from their earlier trading levels some value does seem to be in these metals, as has been seen in nickel. |

Friday (Wednesday) Report: May 28, 2008 The base and precious metals came under pressure yesterday on the back of a dip in the oil price which also boosted the dollar. The precious metals were hardest hit, while the base metals initially weakened on the development, but the secondary reaction was that prices firmed to close the day nearer to the day's highs than to the lows, the exception being aluminium, which was dragged down on the back of the weaker oil. This makes sense as it was aluminium that benefited from the firmer oil last week. |

Friday Report: May 23, 2008 Overall we expect choppy trading to remain in force and this is especially so today with a long weekend in the US for Memorial Day and in the UK for the Spring Bank Holiday (LME closed on Monday). For the moment while there is an absence of supply disruptions changes in the economic growth outlook are likely to be all important and therefore expect the market to watch economic data closely. |

Monday Report: May 19, 2008 Monday's LME is still sorting through the implications of potential lost production due to last week's earthquake in China while also reconciling the latest LME inventory increases and the weaker dollar...Comex copper expected to open lower this a.m. |
|
|
|
Friday Report: May 16, 2008 The metals pushed higher on Thursday which went a long way to offset the recent bouts of weakness, however prices are not out of the danger zone and there still seems to be a cap on prices which on copper is above $8,300, aluminium above $3,000 and zinc above $2,300. Only tin is cap free, while lead and nickel are more interested in securing their floors. |
|
|
|
Monday Report: May 12, 2008 Monday's LME is showing slightly higher prices along with a firmer dollar...traders, however, question whether copper's early gains will hold in the absence of Chinese buying...crude oil is also weaker early. |

RISP: Roll Off Containers Roll off containers pose a unique risk of serious injury if proper precautions are not taken while they are being opened. The weight inside the container can exert enormous force against all sides of the container, including the doors in the rear. When the latch on the doors is released, that pressure can cause the door panel to fly open with enough force to cause serious injury. |
|
RISP: Pulleys, Shafts, Flywheels & Belts Pulley, shafts, flywheels and belts pose a wide range of potential risks during normal operation, both to the equipment operator and to others nearby. Severe, even fatal, injury is likely when a person comes in contact with any of these moving parts. |
|
RISP: Conveyors Conveyors pose a wide range of potential risks during normal operation, both to the operator of the equipment it serves and to others nearby. Severe, even fatal, injury is likely when a person comes in contact with any of a conveyor's moving parts. |
|
RISP: New Employee Training It's no surprise that a disproportionate number of accidents and injuries involve workers who have been on the job for a relatively short period of time. The law and common sense both madate that every employee be educated on the presence of hazards in the workplace, and on the means to mitigate those hazards before they are exposed to them. |

Friday Report: April 25, 2008 At mid-day today (Friday) the LME is lower, mostly reflecting a firmer dollar (it's at a one-month high)... London gold was last indicated @ $886/$887 – it traded to a 3-week low earlier...in New York, Comex copper is expected to open lower, ignoring the latest drawdown in stocks and the Codelco strike – now in its ninth day...yesterday, the May contract closed down 2.9 cents @ $3.8750...this morning we'll see what consumers thought of April via the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index ...the guess is for a reading of 63.2, down from March's 69.5... |

Friday Report: April 18, 2008 This morning, the LME is drifting a bit...copper was lower but traders see it well supported due to the strike at Codelco (yesterday, LME 3-months copper hit a record ($8,880/mt)...London gold was last indicated @ $931.90/$932.60 – that's down a bit and the dollar is a little stronger...in New York, Comex copper is expected to open weaker...yesterday, the May contract settled lower @ $3.9120, succumbing to profit taking, but not before trading to a fresh high ($4.0495.) Yep, quite a week for the red metal. |

Letter to the Editor: The Times-Picayune (New Orleans) Editor: The scrap industry, which you are so quick to vilify in your 9/11 editorial "Squeezing the Scrap Market," is the same scrap industry that was essential to citizens needing to remove tons of debris from the streets of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina... |

Monday Report: Sept. 17, 2007 Last week was lackluster at best with metal market participants thinking more about the larger economic picture, or gold, or crude oil, or the goings on in the U.S. financial sector, or what the Fed will do when it meets this week...last Friday's LME ended mixed but most posted gains for the full week—aluminum the exception...on Wall Street, stocks improved, probably in anticipation of an interest rate cut from the Fed next Tuesday. |

Friday Report: Sept. 14, 2007 Following yesterday's strong finish, this morning's LME lacks conviction in either direction as traders await the latest U.S. macro indicators...only nickel trading above Thursday's close...London gold was last indicated @ $706/$706.80 -- that's off a bit...and in New York, this morning, December Comex copper is expected to open 2+ cents lower...yesterday, the contract closed @ $3.3965, up 3.7 cents on the day... |

Friday Report: Sept. 7, 2007 At mid-week, metals were again softer, reacting in part to the latest news on housing: the National Association of Realtors said that July pending sales of existing homes fell by a surprisingly large 12.2%—the lowest reading since September 2001...most traders, however, see the base metals complex as mostly "range bound" and not poised to move dramatically in either direction— at least for now... |

Friday Report: August 24, 2007 This morning (Friday) the LME is softer with less confident market participants again talking about a more cautious attitude towards risk in the financial arena...consequently, metals were mostly lower early – lead being the exception, overtaking zinc, in fact (we haven't seen that since 1980!)...London gold was also unsettled, trading @ $659.70/$660.30 and behaving much like other assets as opposed to its more traditional role as a "safe haven" in times of financial worry...Wall Street activity will be closely watched today... |

Friday Report: August 3, 2007 Friday morning finds LME 3-mos nickel at lows last seen this past November on deteriorating fundamentals (rising LME inventories and very uncertain stainless steel demand) and Fund liquidation...copper a bit weaker as stocks posted an increase, offsetting the on-going strike at Cananea...lead and tin firmer...aluminum little changed from yesterday's late close...London gold was last indicated @ $665.30/$665.90 and termed "firmer" as some traders see signs of stability in equity markets...Comex Sept copper is expected to open little changed...yesterday, the contract closed 120 points lower @ $3.5730... |
|
Friday Report: July 27, 2007 And now it's Friday morning and the LME is mostly a bit lower in early nervous trading (aluminum and tin the exception)...London gold was last indicated @ $662.60/$663.20... traders expect Sept Comex copper to open slightly lower...yesterday, the contract closed @ $3.5225, down 3.3 cents...and Wall Street today? Given what we saw yesterday, it could be another very interesting trading day...some, however, characterized yesterday as "typical summer action in a bull market." Let's hope so... |
